Gala Mirissa's artistic production is born from the need to express her own bodily pain through art. For this reason, from her first creations her artistic characters reflect a damaged, saddened, defeated being but with the desire to take flight facing her own existential despair. The artist connects with art to safeguard herself from her own reality, suffering from the chronic illness of fibromyalgia, a disease suffered by many anonymous women, hence the overshadowing of this condition in our society.
In this way, the collection called Painful developed by the artist throughout 2021 artistically represents that internal ailment of the sharp incision of pins passing through her body. Metaphorically, the characters writhe in pain, suffering the misfortune of being chained and afflicted by said chronic illness. Ultimately showing us their most intimate side through these female characters.
